Antique North East Anatolian Sivas rug with Persian 'shawl' design. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Circa 1880.
This outstanding and scarce rug was woven in the Turkish town of Sivas in the late 19th century. At this time the workshops of Sivas were producing rugs of strong Persian design influence, and in this case the design is the striped 'Shawl' design. It is considered that the weavers were most likely to be Armenian. The rug is of very fine weave and has outstanding clear dye colours.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile. The rug is of fine weave.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
Size: 5ft 7in x 3ft 10in (170 x 117cm).
