Pashtun cushion cover from the Swat valley (Pakistan) embroidered in floss silk on handwoven cotton. The yellow ground and brilliant pink/red embroidery is a very traditional combination.The face is in good condition, although two small corners seem not to be embroidered, perhaps because they were covered by tassels, which have been removed. The back has some staining - for some reason this is often the case. These bolster shaped cushions were often part of the dowry and an important decorative element.
