Silk purse, Mount Lebanon, late 19th century. The text reads, Jebel Lubnan, Mount Lebanon. It is probably a reference to the mutasarrifia of Mount Lebanon, an administrative zone that was created by the Ottomans, France, Britian and Ors after the 1860 civil war. It did not include the cities we associate with Lebanon today such as Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon and Tyre. The mutasarrifia ended after wwi in 1918.
