An exceptional kilim from the east Caucasus, third quarter 19c. Fabulous and diverse saturated colors and excellent draftsmanship in the designs. The palmette "race car" medallions are of the early type, fully articulated, and well proportioned -- not clumsy and poorly developed as often found in later kilims of this group. The weave is extremely fine and thin with very lustrous wool. Overall it is in very good condition with minor losses at each end and with some old restorations throughout. Size is approximately 5x11 feet, 152x335cm.
