19th Century Uzbek Suzani 52-1/2" by 84"
The ground of this suzani is made from five handwoven panels of cotton and the embroidery is silk in all natural colors. All embroidery is done in chain stitch. This suzani is backed with hand woven cotton which is block printed (see photos 8, 11 and 12). In addition, all edges have a silk ikat piping. The condition is is excellent - all original with no fading, no holes, tears or repairs with no losses to the edges or corners. There is some minor loss of embroidery in some areas in only the single lines of chain stitch (example seen in photo 10), but none in the larger elements. The silk ikat piping is partly worn out (see photo 8) and there are a few small stains (see photo 9).
