Antique Khmer 'Chawng kbun' - This textile was probably made for ordination ceremonies where the young ordinands are called 'naaks', another word for 'naga'. In multiple shades of red, plus yellow accents throughout, it also includes small accents of blue, white, and green . Note the two different borders, one of which is edged in yellow, handsewn silk. Also, there is an idiosyncratic pattern change on one end. There are small holes scattered all over, but no major damage; one handsewn repair; stains on the red ends. a similar example is shown on p.50 in Weaving Paradise; Southeast Asian Textiles and Their Creators, by Linda McIntosh, 2007, for an exhibition of pieces from the collection of Tilleke & Gibbins. late 19th or early 20th century
