Antique Saliani Gallery Rug / s.e. Caucuses / Circa 1850. Exceptional wool and dyes. DeeP full Pile, original ends and sides with minor restoration of selvedges. Several small areas of re-piling in lower border, perhaps due to moth damage? The rug has very high original pile throughout and is in amazing condition for it's age. Cotton wefted with a well executed weave indicating a high level of skill. Much of the camel color in the "wing", (or flower, if you will), motifs is natural camel hair yarn. Though not an unusual or rare design, these rugs are so much more vibrant and original than your standard run-of-the -mill Kazaks being "produced" not so far away in the same time period!
