Back
Belouch Bag Face, 1'11 x 1'9. Fresh find. This is a premium weaving with weft-float brocaded and embroidered ends top and bottom. Note the whimsical tribal elements at both sides of the field, including two "crowned trees". (See Jeff Boucher, Baluchi Woven Treasures, Plate 16.) Thick glossy pile, lower brown, some foundation visible near the edges. Original side selvedges. 80 kpsi (8 x 10). Ten or so knots of faded purple, all other colors natural. This was the face of a pillow when found, with a red back added; as a result there is some red dye transfer visible in the bottom brocade. (Inventory Number 389.)
