Brilliant Konya Rug fragment. This is the older version of these "Memling Gol" yellow ground Konya Yataks. It has the large Memlings with equally dynamic center diamond motifs holding the design together, (in fact they almost dominate the graphics). Colors are exceptional with a True Green, blue-green, exceptional rose color, and the best yellow in the field. The later ones all have a rather weak yellow-green...... this one does not! The double helix in the border and the elem device lead one to think that the weaver clearly understood that "yataks", or bed rugs, were for more than sleeping! Coincidence.....I think not? ;-))) Age: 1st half 18th c. Size: 5'3" x 5'10" Probably only missing one row of gols?
