Fine mixed strip Yoruba "aso oke" woman's wrapper cloth, "iborun", with seven different warp striped designs. Woven from hand spun cotton and using local indigo dye this is a good example of style of cloth used for marriages in the major weaving centre of Ilorin in the early decades of the C20th. a similar cloth is illustrated in Lamb & Holmes "Nigerian Weaving" (1980) page 38.) There is one small area (approx 2cm across) where the weft has worn away, otherwise condition is very good. Dates from circa 1920-30. Nigeria, West Africa
