Exceptionally Fine Elegant Senneh Kilim, Western Persia, 3rd quarter of the 19th century. 4'1" x 6'4".
While the medallion and corner-pieces layout is a well known type, the execution and quality of this Senneh kilim are of exceptional merit. Three different ground colors are used for the corner-pieces, red and black on the bottom half and white on the top. The ivory ground takes advantage of a delicate and masterful weave to create quilt-like diamond patterning giving that special extra attention to detail that makes fine pieces great. Throughout the field the name of the proud craftsman is written in Persian calligraphy in several cartouches using metallic thread. The same golden metallic thread is used for highlighting in the interior of the anchors of the medallions. This is an extraordinary kilim with a fantastic handle. INV# 14539
