Great french turquoise Paisley shawl circa 1840.Very interesting french cashmere shawl beautifully made. The composition of interlocked paisley design is quite amazing. Harlequin boteh medallions surround a brilliant turquoise center !. Fringes and harlequin borders are all in perfect condition.Thin weave and very light original colors. Good condition.
Measures: width 162 cm, length 366 cm.
Positive Comments:
I have rarely seen a french cashmere shawl with so contrasting colors and graphic design. No moth hole at all. This shawl has probably never see the sun light. Shawls in this category are very rare to find.
Negative Comments:
No woven signature, but the french shawls were never signed during this period. Surely a great parisian shawl maker. Four tiny invisible professional mending in the reserve (less than 1 cm) very well done probably at that time. a dozen tiny spots slightly darker (splash?) In the blue reserve, otherwise the shawl is in very good condition (see photos).
