Luri long rug, c.1900, with a rare resign that includes a tree of life, various amusing animals and a pair of amorous deer. 280 x 115 cm, in great condition. Coarsely woven in natural colours (with some abrash in the blue), a few skillful repairs and rebound selvedges. I've included a detail of an older Khamseh rug that shows a similar deer motif. (It may be a distant reflection of old Persian hunting rugs). This isn't a rug for someone looking for soft wool and beautiful colours, but it has real graphic presence and archaic strength.
