mat, Tibet, early 20th century, cm 76x62. Tibetan rugs in so-called ‘tsuk-truk’ technique (woven in narrow stripes - then joined - on small back strap looms) are probably the survivors of a nearly lost tradition of early nomadic weaving. They are often quite ‘minimal’ in their look, and therefore appealing to those appreciating modern art aesthetic. The vast majority being made in the ‘khaden’ format, they very rarely come in the size of a mat as the present lot. In excellent condition, this small seating rug has a truly great visual appeal, i think. Secondary image is taken in sunlight conditions.
