Tai Mao Tube Skirt : Tai Mao is one group of Tai language speaking ethnics. They live along Mao River that stretches between the border of Burma in Shan State and the Chinese border in Yunnan province.
This piece of tube skirt came from Chinese side. Elaborate decorative panel is original and sewn to the foundation of handwoven black tube skirt. Decorative panel consists of alternating panels of chinese satin and band of supplementary weft work panel(with strips of golden foil weave into it). It ends with applique and embroidery work horizontal panel at the bottom. Combination of techniques and material used here is fascinating and worth collecting. Fair conditing with some spots of wear off. Decorative panel measures 1x4 feet. Est. age early 20th century (Decorative panel only).
