The carefully drawn pattern of interlocking sprigs of sawtooth leafs creates a trellis substrate onto which the weaver places an octagonal gul-like device containing an eight-pointed star, which is clearly suggestive of an ancient tribal emblem. The wonderful sense of spacing imparts a feeling of great serenity to the composition, the treatment of which is reminiscent of the earliest Anatolian kilims, echoed in the infinite loop motifs which grace the border. The choice of the ivory background lends itself to truly outline the exceptional colour saturation of the field pattern, creating almost a three dimensional effect. The small format allows us to fully appreciate the jewel-like qualities of Anatolian tribal weaving at its best.
