Antique Ersari Beshir Main Carpet. Turkestan, Khanate of Bochara region.
3rd. qtr. 19 th. century or earlier.
Size: 5.25ft. x 7.4ft. (160 x 225 cm.)
Overall "Gaimak-Gol" design, which are motifs derived from Uzbekistan Ikat textiles.
This design is often found on torbas and chuvals, but rare in main carpets.
Unlike the larger, late 19th. century Beshir main carpets,
this carpet does not seem to have been intended for export.
Considering its moderate size and an additional lower border,
it could indicate that this Beshir was also used as an ensi rug.
All natural colors, ten in all: dark brown, dark blue, mid-blue, pale light blue, madder red, rose-red, blue-green, emerald green, yellow, ivory.
In fabulous good condition for age.
Important collector 's carpet
