Tibetan Khaden Rug
Dating to circa 1970 and in superb, original condition. Featuring a simple, elegant design which has been well drawn in wonderful pastel tones.
Tibetan carpets were only made in a few formats and this one, at 6ft x 3ft, is a typical khaden or sleeping carpet made to cover a bed or raised sleeping platform. The soft, muted colour palette and lack of a border mark this example out, these are often very busy with the design hemmed in tight by wide, elaborate borders.
The pile is soft and evenly worn throughout with wear to the top pile in a few small places, barely visible. The borders and selvages are original. The selvages are in perfect condition. One end now has short fringes where it has been cut down, the other end has full, intact fringes with the original kilim in place. One corner of this fringe has some damage and is a little shorter here. There are staple marks in one corner. These are not damage as such, but they are visible as the pile is darker here where it was pushed down by the staples over many years and not subject to fading.
