a beautiful full-length Ghaghra (skirt) cloth from Kutch, Gujarat. The red satin silk Ghaghra is decorated with floral motifs as well as peacocks and female figures under arches at the hem. The border is decorated with smaller floral motifs. The embroidery has been done with silver-gilt thread in chain-stitch work mastered by the Mochi tribe of Kutch. A very similar purple example was sold at auction at Sotheby's in their "Indian, European and Oriental Paintings and Works of Art" auction in New Delhi on 8th and 9th October, 1992.
