Central Anatolian prayer rug, based on a Yastik design, circa mid 19th c, if not earlier, with a handle like a hanky, and marvelous colors: a brilliant tomato red, blue, green, yellow, white and aubergine. Very low pile at the top of the niche and in places elsewhere. Some foundation is showing, and corrosion in the borders with the selvage a bit ragged here and there and, at the top, some degradation of the border. Nevertheless, this rug is truly beautiful! Notice the flowers in the border! Each is a poem waiting to be read. Purchased from Michael Craycraft over twenty years ago. Just back from the cleaners. No longer available.
