Ersari 'ikat' chuval, 19th century, 150x100 cm, almost intact condition, some small wear in the upper end otherwise full, meaty pile overall. 3 floating cross-medallions in a tremolous, deep field. Clear, archaic skirt design and upper part with birds on the life of trees of Turkmenistan... Single trees in the upper skirt probably showing the girls before their marriage and the bottom skirt symbolising the 'blossoming' woman with their children on their arms…. please also note the stylised human figures in the side border!
