An exceptional antique Uzbek silk adras Ikat hanging from Bukhara / Bokhara. Dating between mid to third quarter of the 19th century, this is a silk warp and cotton weft Ikat (a technique associated with older examples of this textile art form). It boasts a gorgeous floral motifs detailed with an adamlyk motif (inspired from jewellery) and surrounded with polychrome botehs. The fabulous design is executed through tie dye technique using five natural dyes. Often ikats with over five colours were considered as some of the most sophisticated examples because of the complexity of tie dye weaving. It is a large piece in good overall shape. It has some abrasion in some parts but it is expected of a piece over 150 years old. One of the most interesting elements of this piece is the indigo block print lininig.
