a rare complete antique silk embroidered Yomud / Yomut tribe Turkoman / Turkmen young man / boy's hat with original gold appliqué on silver talismanic crown. There is a distinctive beauty to a good Turkoman embroidery that is unlike that of their neighboring group, the Uzbek people as this exceptional example shows. These were made by Persian Turkmen people. It is embroidered using fine silks that are chain-stitched. The rich design is rendered with array of beautiful colours typical of the Yomud style. Such hats were worn by young men and the talismanic jewellery on it contained sacred texts and were there for protection. Often such jewellery were removed. It is nice to see one in original state. . It is a fine piece and a better example than most one sees. a lovely ethnographic garment offered at a reasonable price. Email your questions. size: 15cm (6") diameter of the hat. 9cm (3.5") height.
