a very Rare pair of antique Central Asian Silver Satchkhalta / bridal hair dorsal (worn over braided pigtail ). This one of a kind pair dates between mid to third quarter of 19th Century. Having read almost all of the books on Central Asian and Turkoman jewellery, to my knowledge, nothing like this example has ever been published. Some leading expert friends have suggested that this piece is possibly an urban one made for the bride of a noble family. The fine quality of the work, the intricate patterns on the silver beads and the delicate manner these beads have been strung with red silks is way too sophisticated for rural jewellery. It is likely the work of Uzbek people of Khiva but can also be that of Tajiks in Bokhara / Bukhara. As this example is by far more sophisticated than typical jewellery of both of these cities, it is also plausible to suggest it could be the work of an unknown group. One thing is for sure, it is one of a kind. Offered fair price. In excellent condition. Email me your questions. size: 20cm x 15cm (8" x 6") each.
