Here is a beautifull old Chodor Turkoman embroidered Talisman, which would have been worn to ward off evil. The talisman measures 2 1/2" wide and 5" tall. These are made of silk thread embroidered over a stiff fabric or felt base - in this case we see the use of a warp wrapping technique of embroidery (if it can still be truely referred to as embroidery, i am not really sure as i have only come accross a couple of these done in this technique. Attached to the bottom of the talisman are silk wrapped tassels with beads and some special form of knotting, where the threds are wrapped in a metal thread. The colors are all natural dyed silk. The colors used suggest a Chodor Turkoman woman as the maker durning the early 1900's.
