This is a Japanese cotton zanshi-ori futon cover. Zanshi textiles are woven of leftover threads. These threads often come from other home weaving projects. Typically, the random leftover threads are used for the weft, while the warp threads are what generate the vibrant and erratic horizontal striping. This particular textile contains some kasuri threads, many of which are dyed naturally. There are small boro repairs made to the reverse side of the futon and a solid indigo dyed cotton border on one side. In excellent condition.
