Here is very special Laki embroidery from the 2nd. Half of the 19th. Century. This is a beautiful Laki hair cover measuring (the embroidered part only) 26" long and 3" wide along the narrow top, the bottom rectangular part alone measures 8" tall and 5" wide. The red fabric straps attached to the top
measure 8" for the long one and 5" for the short one, making the longest length of the entire piece, laid out, to be 39 1/4". i am to understand that the red straps at the top were worn around the woman’s head allowing the embroidered hair cover to hang down her back over her braided hair.
Very fine embroidery with bight clear colors - white, saffron yellow, green, light blue, azure blue, light purple, dark purple, and a corrosive black. These hair covers are usually a one sided embroidery making this double sided piece very rare. a beautiful red and white s border and interesting tassels at the bottom, first dark purple wrapped, then old lavender pink beads, wire wrapped, red beads, red wrapped, more beads and finally a little net around green and blue balls. Second half of the nineteenth Century. a real Central Asian Lakai treasure.
