Here is a beautifull old Ersari Turkoman embroidered Talisman,
which would have been worn to ward off evil. The talisman
measures 4 1/2" wide and 6" tall. These are made of silk thread
embroidered over a stiff fabric or felt base. The main colors used
are a vibrant red (could be coachaniel) and green, the dark
centers of the almond blossoms are actually a very Deep Purple
(just like the song), the eye of the amulet is white, blue is used in
one stripe on the top edge wrap and in one set of tassels. Attached
to the bottom of the talisman are silk braided tassels with beads.
The colors are all natural dyed silk. The colors used date this talisman
to the late 19th. century and suggest a Ersari Turkoman woman
as the maker.
