Antique Japanese early Taisho era (1912-26) seto tenmoku chawan tea bowl from Aichi Prefecture in southern Japan near Nagoya. Mid chestnut brown tenmoku ‘hare’s fur’ glaze over a dark brown underglaze. Size 12.7x7.3cm, weight 335 gms
The bowl has strength, integrity and simplicity, is balanced in its asymmetry and has a presence and beauty characteristic of the wabi-sabi aesthetic and the Zen Buddhist tradition.
