Here is a beautiful little Bolivian Amarya Chuspa measuring 9" wide and 7 1/2" tall. These are made for the workers in the high altitude to carry cocoa leaves which they chew (along with a piece of lime which provides citric acid to break down the cocaine from the cocoa leaf) to give them extra stamina in the difficult working conditions at eleven to twelve thousand foot altitude. This chuspa is special in that on the front of the bag there are three small pouches created in the weave of the bag itself used to carry wedges of lime. They are difficult to see but are distinguished by being surrounded by beads. The little pouch opens to the inside so that the little lime prize will not be lost. There are actually seven different colors used in the bag, white, pink, red, purple, natural vicuna, green and dark blue. This is all woven of very fine cameid fibers. The bag is in good used condition, the front is very slightly more faded than the back because it would have faced the sun all day. This a real little art treasure from the highlands of Bolivia. note the horse figure above the central pouch
