Uzbek woman's dress with resist dyed silk warps and red silk wefts. Dimensions: 69 inches across the shoulder and 50 inches high (175 x 127cm), late 19th century. Uzbek ikat dresses are rare. Most surviving garments are robes that open in the front. Dresses have a v-shaped opening at the neck and are otherwise closed in the front. The warp threads are thin and the patterning is intricate and very fine. The dress has seven colors. The ground color is an emerald green that was very difficult to correctly render on the images. Excellent condition.
