http://m.skinnerinc.com/auctions/2713B?utm_source=rugrabbit&utm_medium=w... Yomud Asmalik, 2'6" by 4'5", 19th century. This is Turkoman weaving as tribal folk art. On the left is the wedding procession itself–––the central camel with the bride’s litter on top (with a mini-Asmalik on its flank), followed by the rest of the camel train, including some young camels. On the right is the family of the bride–––Papa astride a horse, Mama and the kids, the family yurt and assorted livestock, dogs, and chickens in the background. It represents not only a celebration of the most important day in a young Turkoman woman's life, but the life of pastoral nomads in general.
