Rare Japonese Lampas kesa or Buddist kinran shawl 19c with five damask bands dating from 19th century. The Textiles used are often Chinese and earlier. Silk brocaded Lampas strip of paper called kinran dating from the eighteenth century. Damask brocaded with interlacing geometric lamellar paper on rusty orange background, alternating with dragons and lotus flowers in shades of silver, purple, yellow and cream. Six squares on a brocade gold and green. Lining seven bands of dark blue taffeta silk. Excellent condition and color preservation.
