moroccan berber middle atlas carpet this large, very fine and rare carpet is from the region of Zemmour in the Middle Atlas mountains. Its size and fineness suggest that it was woven for use on ceremonial or other important occasions. The colours are deep and rich and the whole field is filled with different and intricate Berber motifs. a piece showing similar warps, colours and design is shown on Plate 15 of "Carpets and Textiles of Morocco". In "Maroc - Tapis de Tribus" Plate 20 there is a piece with similar colour combinations and fineness of weave which is attributed to the region of Tiflet. Reference 2499.
