Back
extraordinary Afghanistan float wefted and suzani woven unknown object, 63 x 32 cm (2ft 1" x 1ft 1") 20th century, natural and one chemical(orange) dyes, condition good with regular light wear and side damage (see pics).
One easily sees a regular bag or chanteh in this piece but to me that doesn't make sense: when folded together the bottom doesn't fold nicely because it is stiff and thick by the wool at the back. Also the motif in the middle doesn't repeat (no symmetry). i have the impression it has been used as a kind of child's saddle maybe for a donkey or a horse. Note the (dryed up)greasy dirt at the back that could be explained by the sweaty, greasy skin of an animal. If you see a bag in it after all it's also fine with me, i don't know. i welcome the person who can help me out on this to tell me what it is.
