This handsome Baluch bag with a classic 'Mushwani' type diamond and ashik design was woven in southeastern Persia in or near the region of Sistan in the nineteenth century. Both palette and design strongly point to a Sistan origin as does the specific construction of the khorjin bag as portions of the pile edges of the central bridge remain at the top. Sistan pieces are known for their adept use of greens and this piece certainly does not disappoint. The madder red is vibrant and the various hues of green and blue are varied and deep. The soft wool is in keeping with the best of Baluch weavings. this is an authentic small tribal treasure. size: 1' 5" x 1' 8" inv# 14997
