Antique Anatolian Malatya area kilim with an exceptionally well balanced palette, juxtaposition of colours and fine drawing of motifs. In very good original condition with just a few home made repairs to small holes/broken weft (see close-up photos in link provided). Original tightly plaited fringe and tassels at both ends. Possibly from the Yazihan or the Southern Arguyan area (open to suggestions). Extensive discrete use of cross motifs, which can also be found in Islamic weavings, perhaps from an Armenian family as the area has string Christian and Armenian roots. The Armenians, who had been persecuted in the late 19th century, were finally driven out of the area by the Ottomans in 1915. a truly beautiful example. Size 215cm x 100cm.
