Back
Pair of late 19th century Anatolian Malatya dowry chuvals. 163cm x 100cm and 143cm x 100cm. Finely embroidered silk panels on woven wool kilim foundation with striped skirts, angora tassels in centre of guls and remnants of metallic thread (used in Malatya dowry chuvals between about 1880 and 1910). There are both natural and synthetic colors used. first chuval in very good condition with lower skirt reduced by one stripe and minor marks, the second with some folding lines, resulting holes and stain to upper skirt. Both beautiful, well preserved and collectible examples that i am keen to keep together as a rarely found pair of dowry chuvals in silk.
