Antique Tabriz ‘Hadji Jalili’ Rug
Circa 1910,
North-West Persia,
Wool on Cotton Foundation,
Size 1.58m x 1.10m
This rug is exemplary of the finest traditions of pieces made at the time in the famous city of Tabriz. The sparse field is indicative of the much fabled ‘Hadji Jalili’ workshops which like ‘Hadji Mochtashem’ was repudiated to have produced the very finest Tabriz rugs. The quality of wool and high knot density elevate the rug above the plethora of pieces which were produced in Tabriz at the time, many of which have consequently not lasted as well, due to the inferior quality of materials used. This rug is however presented in mint condition with its original fringes in tact, a testament to the outstanding artisanship of the time.
