Exceptionally Fine Antique Bidjar Rug Circa 1890, Persian Kurdistan, Wool on Cotton Foundation, Size 2.00m x 1.45m, Bidjar rugs have been variously described as being amongst the hardest wearing carpets from Central Asia, popularly being known as ‘Iron’ Bidjars. This is most probably because rugs made in Bidjar have traditionally been woven using double wefts giving them a heavy cumbersome feel. This rug however demonstrates the dexterity with which weavers in Bidjar wove their carpets for it has an exceptional high knot density.
