Extraordinary antique Daghestan Avar small rug 128 x 82 cm (4ft 3" x 2ft 9") 2nd half 19th century all natural dyes colours: blue, red brown, ocre, sea green, white, 2nd blue, dark brown (minor corrosion), purple (cochineal) condition: according to age, low pile all over, original sides partly slight damage, upper ending remnants of original kilim (cotton) finishing, lower ending some loss, some stitched tears visible at the back (see pics) technicals: symmetric knotting, warps: ivory wool spun counter clockwise 2 threads twined clockwise, wefts: 2 shoots of grey brown wool, selvedges: triple wound cotton Remarks: highlights of white cotton knotting and most unusual highlights of knotting with threads made of some kind of fabric (purple, see pics)
