Back
an interesting tibetan rag rug made of recycled tibetan wool weave pieces. if the maroccan boucherouite rugs are now quite famous , this kind of tibetan rugs will maybe never go the same way. a simple reason is that they are quite uncommon, i have only seen 5 pieces in more than 20 years. these pieces were all 20th century made although some people attempted some 19th century dating regarding to them. on this piece traces of intensiv use are clearly visible and here not like on older rugs where we chase the trace of chemical colors among mainly natural one, we have to look really carefully to find one or two natural dyed pieces of wool.so this piece most problably will not predates the mid 20th century.
each piece of cloth is separately sewn to the background. the main border has a greek key design and the field design is idententical to warp-faced-back rug with concentric squares and swastika. we can see a pink and a white swastika and at the top a red half swastika with oblique strokes. oblviously it is imitating such a monastic warp-faced-back rug and was possibly intented to the same purpose; who know s!
an eccentric object which will probably never talk its true story.
PS: in case, i also have early wfb rugs.
