Late 19th to early 20th century woman’s silk robe from Urgup, Cappadocia
An antique womans coat/robe from Urgup in Cappadocia. The fabric is kutnu silk which i believe was woven in Gaziantep, near the Syrian border and Aleppo from where this technique for weaving silk originates. The unusual pastel coloured textile from which the coat is made is woven with an abstracted flower motif and is entirely hand stitched with a pocket on the right, silk buttons and fine orange silk lining to the sleeves. The robe is 134cm long, 54cm from shoulder to shoulder, clean and in exceptionally good condition for its age with only a few minor marks from use.
