Back
It is six paper painted panels that were to have been made into a folding screen but some reason it was never completed by mounting on other panels that would then have been put together to make a folding screen; it probably had a companion piece that finished out the scene ~ most screens came in pairs. It depicts a scene from the famous Heike Monogatari which is a long, old story of 12th cent. samurai. It is done in ink, light color washes and some gold leaf.
Put together, the six separate paper panels make a piece approx. 4.5 x 12 ft. There is some slight damage to some of the edges and it really should be professionally mounted on panels of some kind, the missing details due to paper damage would be very easy to paint in for someone who can do Japanese style stuff (like me).
It would be a really dramatic piece for a room or "man-cave"
