moroccan high atlas berber bag / cushion This piled bag is from the Ait Bou Ichaouen small tribe in the extreme east of the High Atlas mountains. This area is so isolated that it was unknown to the carpet world until about 1997. The bold colours and striking designs are unique . It dates from the first half of the 20th century. We must be extremely grateful to the authors/researchers Alfred and Suzanne Saulniers for their text book "Ait Bou Ichaouen - weavings of a nomadic Berber tribe". Pages 81-86 have extensive examples of bags and plate 24 shows a very similar piece in age and design. This is a very rare, authentic and collectable tribal piece. Reference 2561. Size 32 x 49cms. 1ft.1in. x 1ft.7in. Euros 145.
