Back
i turn up pieces of this quality every two to three years. The audience can appreciate these for many reasons:
the glowing full pile camel hair field & panels; the charmingly simple, chevroned kelim endfinishes; the expected oxidation of the dark browns & in this case purples; the perfect Baluch red and wool that is soft as a cat; the spaciously drawn, "tree of life" under the watchful eye of a flock of "falcons", which satellite the field. But personally, i like the size best of all because the piece can fit on the back of a door and you can say, "i almost for got to show you this one" and bang, close the door!
EC0508 Baluch prayer rug; n.e. Persia; 2-3" x 4-1" circa 1875
Enjoy!
