Back
Small circa 3rd quarter 19th century Anatolian kilim from Malatya, probably Sinan village or one of the surrounding villages now also under the Karakaya dam. The top fringe plaited in Kurdish style and originally longer at this end, with original tassels at the bottom. Good colours and the reds looks to me like cochineal but waiting for further advice from a dyes friend. Lively but sensitive drawing including earring/amulet and hands motifs. Clean and in good as found condition with a small hole and characterful old nomadic spiders web repairs. Size 120cm x 86cm excluding 16cm tassels.
