moroccan high atlas horse blanket in which the foundation is a flat woven kilim of undyed black goat hair. The design is of white wool with some colour highlights. This combination of wool, goat hair and designs is typical of the Berber work of the Ait Ouaouzguite region of the High Atlas south of Marrakech and is used in hand woven large kilims (hanbels), capes (handiras) as well as horse blankets and bags. Good information is found in "Marokko" by Kurt Rainer and colour plates 78-83 all show elements of the designs found in this piece. Reference 2566. Size 110 x 140cms. 3ft.7in. x 4ft.7in.
