Back
An exceptional and rare antique silk embroidered Yomud / Yomut Turkoman bag , dating to 19th Century. These bags are known as Bokhcha (also written as Boqcha, Bokcha, Bocha)and their primary function was to cover valuable books such as Korans. Some suggest they were used to contain precious items such as jewelry. There is a distinctive beauty to a good Turkoman embroidery that is unlike that of their neighboring group, the Uzbek people as this exceptional example shows. The dynamic design with classical Turkoman motifs on the front side and archaic patterns bordering a lattice checkered design on the back is nothing short of a visual spectacle. The chain and flat stitching is very fine. The colours are beautiful. This wonderful ethnographic textile art is in good shape. Email your questions. size 24cm x 23cm (9.5" x 9")
