large yellow ground antique kazak or karrabaugh rug with a most unusual design feature. An inexplicable ivory panel woven into the rug as shown. When i first saw the rug i was certain this was a crude patch or reweave but on inspection it became clear this was an original design element woven into the rug. The rug has all good colors and mostly good pile. Few small spots of slight wear and some original oxidized browns showing foundation. Ends and edges untouched and could use a little restoration. Washed. a well known design group with a unique feature. ca. 1875 or earlier. 4'10 x 7'8"
